'A TRULY GRAND HOTEL' The Langham Hilton was first opened as a hotel by the Prince of Wales in 1865 and was London's first Grand Hotel. It quickly established itself as London's most fashionable gathering place and regular guests included Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde. Due to war damage in 1940, The Langham ceased to function as a hotel until Hilton International acquired it in 1986 and began the painstaking work of recostructuring the original Victorian features resulting in it becoming once more one of the world's Grand hotels.
